Cat Conscious Council

Be Cat Conscious!

Almost 3 dozen Wintergreen cats have been trapped and fixed-yea! I estimate there are at least 15-20 more to do and every one is critical.  The remaining cats to be trapped will be more challenging since they are not part of known colonies but appear to be loners seen at random times and locations. So I need help from you mountain toppers more than ever (and you don’t need to be a cat lover to help, just the humanely minded and socially responsible people that you are!)

>    Help identify stray cats and their locations: make note of color, apx size and most importantly where and when you see them. Most cats that have been fixed have had the very tip of their left ear removed to more easily identify them but it is not always easy to see. We are fairly familiar with cats around the Mountain Village area but continue to hear of additional cats in far flung locations and they need our help too.

>    Assist with monitoring traps on the days they’re set.

>    Provide transportation of the trap (with cat) to spay/neuter clinics and/or pick up of same cat.

>    Provide temporary (1-2 day) care of cat after surgery (in your garage or a laundry room) and in that time help assess possible success of socialization (a completely tame mother cat was trapped at the spa in the fall of 2009.)

>    Foster and socialize kittens to give them a chance at being adopted.

>    Contact me if you are willing to forward posters about adoptable cats and kittens to your cat loving friends, who might forward the info to yet more cat enthusiasts.

> “Fund a Fix!” Donate to the Nelson County SPCA (aka “Almost Home”) who is bearing the financial burden of fixing most of the Wintergreen cats. Make your check out to “Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County” and mail to:

Providing any one of the above would be a great help. Let’s make this another successful community project that Wintergreen can be proud of. Thank you for your support!
